Tegel airport (TXL) or ‘Otto Lilienthal’, is situated in Tegel which is part of the northern borough of Reinickendorf and is just 5 miles North West of the capital city Berlin.
It is one of two airports in Berlin but it is the main and busiest airport of the two, with over 15 million passengers passing through the airport each year. Due to it’s location, the airport is popular with both business and leisure passenger. However, Tegel airport is due to close in 2012 once the new airport in Brandenburg is complete.
Getting to And From Tegel Airport And Airport Transfers
Due to it’s location and very close proximatry to Berlin, transfers from the airport to the capital Berlin are relatively simple. You have a choice of option such as car hire, bus, coach, taxis or private shuttle.
Bus: BVG operate a regular bus service to and from Tegel airport and Berlin. This links passengers with several parts of the city in around 20 miutes. The X9 bus takes you to Zoo Station and the TXL service terminate at Alexanderplatz (viaHauptbahnhof). Bus numbers 109 & 128 also run to Berlin from the airport.
You can purchase bus tickets on the bus or at the BVG information counter in the arrivals area. Tegel airport is in the ‘VBB Fare Zone A’
Taxi: Taxi operate from outside the airport terminals. A taxi from the airport to Berlin will cost anything between 15-30 euros. It is always a good idea to agree on a price or at least ask what the cost will be, before getting into the taxi.
